WEAAD stands for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is recognised internationally on 15 June each year.
In 2018, COTA Tasmania held walks in Hobart and Launceston, inviting participants to show their concern about the terrible toll elder abuse takes on individuals, families and communities. Walks are planned for both cities again in 2019.
Each of us has a role to play in preventing elder abuse. If you are not free to walk with us on 15 June, please make a donation or fundraise if you can, to help us organise this important event. Then spread the word to your friends and family.
If you or anyone you know is experiencing elder abuse,
please call the Elder Abuse Helpline on 1800 441 169.
COTA Tasmania supports Tasmania’s Elder Abuse Prevention Strategy. Our activities on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in 2018 were supported by the Tasmanian Government, the City of Launceston, the City of Hobart and Mathers House.
