Piecing it Together – Clarence 2020

In partnership with Clarence City Council, RACV Hotels Hobart, and Vicinity Centres, COTA Tasmania’s second Piecing it Together intergenerational art project was a roaring success! The project brought younger and older people together to learn about, design, and create street art, and challenge stereotypes about being younger and becoming older.

Under the guidance of Tasmanian street artist and muralist, Jamin, our six older and five younger participants designed and created a beautiful piece of art at Eastlands, in the car park between Woolworths and the bus mall. Participants developed skills in different stenciling and spray painting techniques to create the piece with a shared vision about taking risks and stepping into the unknown to embrace change and possibility, much like a bird leaving the nest.

The team received heaps of positive comments as they painted, with a real appreciation of how they were turning a dull space into something beautiful. All participants were raving about how wonderful the project was, particularly with Jamin’s leadership and teaching.
